OnePlus 7 and 7T series users are now getting their hands on OxygenOS 12.1 based on Android 12, two months after Google debuted the brand new Android 13.
But it’s worth noting that these Android phones, the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, as well as the 7T and 7T Pro, are already three-year-old devices.
OnePlus 7, 7T series: three-year-old Android phones
According to a recent report by Notebook Check, Chinese phone giant OnePlus has unveiled its 2019 7 and 7T series in major smartphone markets including the United States, United Kingdom, and India.
The news report notes that the 7 and 7T series have made a huge mark in the general smartphone market. These OnePlus mobiles are one of the latest phones to shake off the pop-up selfie cameras, ditching the hole-punch design for a smoother display.
However, these three-year-old phones have been stuck on Android 11 for quite some time now. To be more specific, Notebook Check reports that 7 and 7T users have been using the old mobile OS for about a year and a half.
OnePlus 7 Series receives OxygenOS 12.1 based on the Android 12 update
This time, however, OnePlus has finally released a new update to its flagship devices for 2019 as it rolls out Android 12-based OxygenOS 12.1 to the 7 and 7T series.
According to a report from GSM Arena, the giant phone maker has started beta testing Android on its older devices in recent weeks. And as such, users of these phones could only get their hands on a buggy and unstable version of OxygenOS 12.1.
However, OnePlus has already finished beta testing its three-year-old phones and started releasing a new update to the stable channel, allowing users to get Android 12.
In its report, GSM Arena says that Android 12 beta testers for the 7 and 7T series are getting the update before others. But people under the stable variant could also get their hands on it in the next few days or few weeks.
What to expect from the new OnePlus 7 Android update
The new update for the 2019 flagship phone offers the August 2022 security update two months after its release.
In addition to the security update, it also brings a new three-level dark mode, better battery life, and better frame rates for gamers, to name a few. It also provides several bug fixes and overall visual improvements, including new app icons.
