ARK: Survival Evolved and Gloomhaven are free to claim on Epic Games Store

The Epic Games Store is back with another of its double promotions. This time around, PC players can grab free copies of ARK: Survival Evolved and Gloomhaven, replacing last week’s Spirit of the North and The Captain bonuses.

ARK comes as a gift again and again, offering players an action-adventure survival experience set on an island inhabited by dinosaurs. The multiplayer game has players start their journey with nothing and slowly gather skills and resources to fight mythical creatures and tame technologically enhanced prehistoric beasts.

This is how developer Studio Wildcard describes the game:

Stranded on the shores of a mysterious island, you must learn to survive. Use your cunning to kill or tame the native creatures that roam the land, and meet other players to survive, dominate… and escape!

Meanwhile, Gloomhaven arrives as a dungeon-diving strategy game based on the classic tabletop experience from Isaac Childres. Playable with up to four players, the game lets you take down enemies in various dungeons using turn-based combat. The 17 mercenaries available have over a thousand abilities to hone and master.

Developer Flaming Fowl Studios describes the setup as follows:

Adapted from the original Gloomhaven board game, this branching campaign with 95 story missions pits your greed against your morality. Many powerful adversaries vie for control of the city of Gloomhaven, while others search for ancient crypts and forgotten artifacts. You can always be on the side of the residents, but it may not pay well…

When not on sale, ARK costs $19.99 to purchase, while Gloomhaven comes in at $34.99.

Epic announced on Twitter Thursday that Ark: Survival Evolved, the 2017 action-adventure survival video game, and Gloomhaven, the 2021 turn-based co-op dungeon crawler, are available to download for free for a week.

The dino-centric survival game from Studio Wildcard has done quite well, releasing four paid DLC expansion packs and several other free expansions, not to mention the spin-off Battle Royale since it was first released in Early Access in 2015. The sequel will be released next year, this time with a single-player campaign and an accompanying animated series starring Vin Diesel!

Meanwhile, Flaming Fowl Studios’ video game adaptation of the co-op board game Gloomhaven was a critical success and received favorable reviews after launching into early access, with Polygon’s own review praising its “clear and uncluttered user interface” and dense gameplay.

Picking up any game, let alone free, sounds like a pain in the ass. However, the offer expires on September 29, so hurry up and free up some hard drive space.
